# What is the Problem

African Students lack access. Not just to the internet. To everything else that matters.

Reliable internet access is a major challenge on many African campuses, but not because the institutions themselves are deficient. A primary and often overlooked reason is the **geographic location of many universities** situated in rural or semi‑urban areas, far from the strong signal coverage zones of traditional Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Telecom companies prioritize expanding their networks in cities, leaving rural campuses with weak or nonexistent signals.

Students are forced to buy multiple SIM cards, own multiple routers, and spend over ₦10,000 a month on data that still fails when they need it most. They cannot submit assignments, join online classes, or apply for global opportunities.

* Quality mentorship
* Global partnerships
* Funding and investment
* Real-world opportunities like internships, remote jobs, and scholarships
* Reliable information, education, and learning resources
* A supportive community of builders

This is the access gap. And it is the problem Shard Network exists to solve.
